Theme: The Giving Grace
Topic: Yesterday’s Resources are Not Enough to Make Impact Today
John 6:7
Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
Desiring to have more is not greed, rather it is sensitivity to responding to the demands of the moment. The amount of money you spend on utilities when you are single, living in a single room apartment will not be enough to pay for utilities when you get married, have children, and move into a bigger apartment. It is the same in all areas of our lives – The increasing challenges of life demand a corresponding increase in resources.
In the scripture verse above, Philip was saying that two hundred pennyworth of bread was enough to feed the hungry yesterday, but today, it is not enough to feed the over 5000 people before them. Jesus Christ had to multiply the available 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes to feed the multitude (John 6:10-13). When God promised to increase Abraham, He also promised to bless him to take care of the increase (Hebrews 6:14).
When the early Church had enough resources for them, nobody lacked and they were joyful (Acts 4:32-37). However, when the Church grew without corresponding increase in resources, chaos set in (Acts 6:1). The needy are not reducing in number. You cannot keep depending on resources of yesterday. You must desire more to meet the demands of today.
Prayer Assignment:
1. Oh Lord, increase my resources to take care of the growing demands around me.
