Topic: Troubling the Pool — II

Scripture Reading: John 5:1-9

Main Text:
John 5:4
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

The pool of Bethesda is symbolic of the power, provision and supernatural assistance of God. The pool of Bethesda had the potential power to make a sick person whole but an angel had to trouble or stir up the water in the pool (John 5:4-9).

God and Angels don’t always stir up the water of the spirit of God themselves. God uses spirit-filled believers to trouble the waters as the Holy Spirit directs them. The invalid man was sick for thirty-eight years. Though he went to the pool of Bethesda repeatedly, he was not healed. His miracle did not come by the angel stirring up the waters, but by the revolutionary Jesus challenging him to be revolutionary in his attitude, instead of just lying there and hoping to be healed (John 5:7-9).

You stir up the gift of the Holy Ghost by putting it to use (2 Timothy 1:6-7). The things you think about, say and do stir up the gift of God. Negative thoughts, words and actions quench the gift of the Spirit while positive thoughts, words and actions stir up the gift of the Spirit.

Prayer: Pray that anything in you which quenches the gift of the Holy Ghost in you, be removed from your life.
