Month Theme: Explode
Topic: Troubling the Pool — I
Scripture Reading: John 5:1-9
Main Text:
John 5:4
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
The pool of Bethesda is symbolic of the power, provision and supernatural assistance of God. The pool of Bethesda had the potential power to make a sick person whole but an angel had to trouble or stir up the water in the pool (John 5:4-9).
The water in the pool of Bethesda did not heal anybody until the angel troubled it. The word “troubled” is the Greek word tarassō, which means to stir or agitate.
1. Eruption — To stir or agitate means to disturb the original setting of a system.
Eruption is the sudden outbreak of something especially something noisy or unwelcome. Stirring up can be mistaken as disturbing the original state of order, purity or wisdom.
2. Energisation — It involves introducing energy into a system. Energising a system shifts people and objects.
3. Enforcement — An interesting definition of stirring up is to disrupt the traditional flow. Enforcement is the act of compelling observance or compliance with a law, rule or obligation.
Beautiful theological beliefs are shaken when the power of God explodes. Things like anointing oil and prayer clothes are employed contrary to the belief of well-meaning believers who insist that we should only quote the Scriptures to release God’s power. God and Angels don’t always stir up the water of the spirit of God themselves. God uses spirit-filled believers to trouble the waters as the Holy Spirit directs them.
Prayer: Ask the Holy Ghost to make you more sensitive to His guidance.
