Month Theme: Explosion

Topic: Togetherness

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1-41

Main Text:
Acts 2:1
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Time breeds togetherness; time bonds believers. On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were “all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1-13). They spent enough time together for their hearts to be united and their purpose to be defined. Every one of them assumed a common agenda. Selfishness was destroyed and selflessness was cultivated.

Time was required to blend the diverse individuals in the Upper Room together.
• Ambitious
James and John were ambitious men who were consumed with the desire to sit on the right and left of the throne of Jesus Christ in His Kingdom.
• Unreliable
John Mark earned the unenviable status of the disciple when he fled naked when Jesus Christ was arrested.
• Fearful
Peter had denied Jesus Christ twice and gone back to his fishing career.
• Doubtful
Thomas doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
• Sex
Mary the mother of Jesus Christ and other women were admitted into the fold of the male company of disciples of whom may have been misogynists.

Despite their individual weaknesses and failings, the disciples were with one accord (together) in prayer and supplication (Acts 1:14). Praying and making supplications together gave them a common direction and the love of God energised them.

Prayer: Pray for the unity of your local church and the Body of Christ.
