Month Theme: Focus
Topic: Restoration
Scripture Reading: Judges 8:22-32
Main Text:
Galatians 6:1
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
This Scripture is important in our day when many are erring. Spiritual people must focus on restoring people who fall. We must not destroy them. Sometimes church members pressure a pastor to deal coarsely with a brother who falls. They do nothing to help with the brother’s restoration.
They don’t visit him. They offer no encouragement and tragically, they fail to pray for him. They rather yell at the pastor to crucify him. Pastors must use their tender hearts to deliver the flock from extreme zealots. Each time we correct someone who misses it, our aim should be to restore him, not to destroy his life. There are various ways of disciplining people in the church, however the spirit behind the disciplinary act should be that of love and humility.
There are times when church members so zealously want to protect the reputation of their church that they are impatient with converts. We must love human beings more than our reputation.
There is a way to handle those who willfully persist in sin. The pastor must be led by the Spirit to do this. In the wilderness, Moses sought the face of God on disciplinary issues. It cannot be different today. Every leader must refuse to be pressured to hate others.
Prayer: Pray for anyone you know who is struggling with their christian life, that God will strengthen them and give them grace to overcome temptation.
