Month Theme: Holy Ghost

Topic: The Superiority of Revelation

Scripture Reading: Acts 17:20-25

Main Text:
Acts 17:23
23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

The Athenians worshipped “the God” they did not know and ended up in idolatry (Acts 17:22-25). THEY WORSHIPPED GOD IGNORANTLY. Paul and the believers WORSHIPPED GOD BY REVELATION that He is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. The Holy Ghost must be similarly worshipped.

Superiority of worshipping God by revelation:
1. Presence — God is Lord of Heaven and earth. The presence of the Holy Ghost is unlimited. We worship Him in places of worship but He is not limited to them (Genesis 28:16-17). We have access to God everywhere. Ignorant worshippers don’t appropriate His presence.
2. Presents — Those who worship idols give them things they need. The Holy Ghost does not need anything from us (James 1:16-17). He rather gives to us. Idol worshippers give presents to their idols but worshippers who know God receive presents from Him.

We should be more conscious of receiving from Him than giving to Him. If we give to God, we give Him things He doesn’t need – it is just a favour when we give to others and to God’s work. Ignorant worshippers don’t receive God’s blessings in His presence.

Prayer: Ask the Holy Ghost to help you worship God by revelation.
