Month Theme: Explosion

Topic: The Sound

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1-10

Main Text:
Acts 2:2
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

The coming of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost was associated with a sound from Heaven like a wind. The word “sound” in Acts 2:2 is the Greek word ‘ēchos’ meaning a loud or confused noise, roar or rumour. The various meanings of the word “sound” are comparable with an explosion. The main phenomenon that was associated with the arrival of the Holy Ghost was the “sound from heaven”. The wind was used to describe the sound (explosion). The people heard a sound – an explosion.

Jesus Christ told Nicodemus that the wind of the Spirit has a sound. He said the wind was unpredictable. People cannot tell where it is coming from and where it is going but it’s effect can be felt (John 3:8).
1. Supernatural Sound
The sound in the above scripture reference is a “spiritual sound” which is sometimes heard with a “spiritual ear”.
2. Natural Sound
Nevertheless, the Church must have faith in God for the Holy Ghost to manifest Himself with audible sounds and tangible effects among believers.

On one occasion when the early Church prayed, the ground on which they stood shook physically and they were filled with the Holy Ghost (Acts 4:29-31). Over the years, the Church of Jesus Christ has tried to teach believers to walk by faith in the Word of God instead of depending on physical phenomena and manifestations. Whilst this posture is good and spiritual, it has produced believers who don’t have faith in God to demonstrate His power physically. We must release our faith in God to manifest Himself with the audible sounds, visible signs and tangible wonders.

Prayer: Pray and trust God to intervene in a physical situation in your life.
