Month Theme: Explode

Topic: The Mercy Option

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 1:1-16

Main Text:
1 Timothy 1:13
13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

The target of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the sinner regardless of race or status. There is no sinner who is too sinful to be forgiven. Saul of Tarsus had an encounter with Jesus Christ and was saved. The chief of all sinners became an apostle who took the Gospel to the Jews and gentles (1 Timothy 1:12-16).

The above scripture reference reveals the works of the apostle Paul as a sinner before God saved him and put him into the ministry. He was a sinner who did not perish in his sins but received the mercy option of God. He described himself as the chief sinner before his conversion to Christ (1 Timothy 1:15). The chief sinner became the chief speaker of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 14:11-12).

Mercy in 1 Timothy 1:16 means to have pity or to be compassionate. God says “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy” (Romans 9:15-16). Choose the mercy option.

Prayer: Pray for someone who has ill-treated you; forgive the fellow and ask God to show him or her mercy.
