Month Theme: Giving and Receiving
Topic: The Impact of Giving and Receiving 1
Scripture Reading:
Philippians 4:10-23
Main Text:
Philippians 4:18
18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
Giving and receiving has great impact on the receiver. The apostle Paul mentioned the effect of the Philippians’ gifts on him (Philippians 4:18). Firstly, Paul had all. By “having all”, the apostle meant he had everything he needed. There was no need in his life that was not supplied. God raises people in the ministry to meet the needs of men and women of God so that they can fulfil God’s purpose. These vessels of God can only do what they are called to do if there are people who are obedient to God to provide the things they need to be effective.
Secondly, he abounded. This means he had excess supply of everything he needed – he had enough to spare. It is advantageous to have more than few or a little quantity of something. To have options is not a luxury. When you have more than enough, others benefit from you. Sadly, many believers shy away from having surplus because they equate that with worldliness – Paul did not feel bad to abound.
Thirdly, Paul was full. To be full means to fulfil, to accomplish, to be complete and to replenish. The apostle did not just have all and he did not just abound but he was full. To be full means he used the things he received to fulfil his task in life – he was not wasteful. He did not misapply the resources that came to him. People who are not disciplined may receive all and abound but never be full.
Prayer:
1. Pray for the grace to abound, have all and be full.
2. Pray that any gift you receive will not be a waste but will precipitate more blessings.
