Month Theme: Holy Ghost
Topic: The Holy Ghost as a Person
Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1-10
Main Text:
Acts 2:4
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The Holy Ghost is not an impersonal force but a living being. He is not an “it” but a “He”. He is superior to all created beings and spirits. He is not a person at the human level. He is God.
Knowing the Holy Ghost as a person gives us freedom in the Spirit (John 4:21-24):
• Freedom from limitation — Not bound to people and geographical locations. “Neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem”.
• Freedom from created things — Failure to understand the personality or the deity of the Holy Ghost, leads to wrong ways of worshipping God or worshipping wrong things (created things). “We know who we worship”.
• Freedom from the flesh — Believers who know that God is a Spirit worship Him “in spirit and in truth”. We worship God in the power of the Spirit and in accordance to biblically inspired revelation.
The Father seeketh such to worship Him. “Seeketh” means to look for or desire. God is looking for those who worship Him in Spirit and in truth. He found David (Psalm 89:20). God found Cornelius and Peter and the Spirit brought them together (Acts 10:19-21). These spiritual connections are only possible if we see the Holy Ghost as a person or God.
Prayer: Ask the Holy Ghost to help you know Him better.
