Month Theme: Fire
Topic: The Approved Preacher
Scripture Reading: Acts 7:50-60
Main Text:
Acts 4:19
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
Fiery messages from fiery preachers lead to either repentance or persecution. Stephen’s audience preferred persecuting him to repentance. Stephen’s message to his hard-hearted audience was fiery but it produced indignation in them (Acts 7:50-60).
Stephen was one of the approved men who were selected to be deacons in the New Testament Church (Acts 6:3-6). He later developed into an approved – accepted, authorised, sanctioned, validated – preacher. Stephen did not remain stuck with the initial assignment of “serving tables” (Acts 6:2). He rose to the place of a higher assignment.
The religious leaders and people of the day, resisted Stephen and rejected the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 7:54-60). Nevertheless, Stephen proved his character as a deacon and preacher in the things he said and did while he was being stoned to death. He did not betray the testimony of the disciples about him, even when faced with death. He was an approved preacher. He passed the test.
Prayer: Pray for the grace to pass your test.
