Acts 8:18
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

We saw in yesterday’s devotional that apart from religious people like lukewarm Christians and unspiritual Christian leaders who try to stop the preaching of the Gospel and the move of the Holy Ghost, individuals and groups with devilish or demonic powers oppose the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These are sorcerers and sorceresses in the church who try to manipulate and control everything and everyone.

Simon the sorcerer was one of such people who joined himself to the church (Acts 8:13). He had a monitoring spirit (Acts 8:18). The monitoring spirit watches (sees physically and spiritually), keeps watch (stays awake) and walks with us (follows us). Simon “saw” more than what natural eyes see. He had the power to see.

Sorcerers and sorceresses curse and manipulate people based on what they see (sometimes through their objects of divination). Balaam had to see Israel to curse it (Numbers 23:13). The believer, however, has superior sight. Apostle Peter saw through Simon’s heart and spirit, and pronounced judgment on him (Acts 8:21-23). Believers must trust God to see beyond sorcerers and sorceresses, and to activate the power to cast out the monitoring spirit.

Prayer: Pray and command the eyes of sorcerers and sorceresses around you to be darkened (Job 11:20; Psalm 69:19, 23)
