Month Theme: Fire
Topic: Power Over the Child of the Devil
Scripture Reading: Acts 13:1-12
Main Text:
Acts 13:8
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
Elymas was full of deceit and trickery. Apostle Paul called him a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that was right or righteous (Acts 13:6-12). His purpose in the life of the governor was to:
1. Defend — He withstood the apostle Paul.
2. Divert — He tried to divert the governor’s attention from the faith.
We have power over the children of the devil. We always overcome them (1 John 4:4).
1. Empowerment — Paul was not afraid of Elymas. Filled with the Holy Ghost, Paul set his eyes on him. We carry the Spirit of power (2 Timothy 1:7).
2. Engagement — Paul exposed Elymas, extracted him from his comfort zone and engaged him (Acts 13:10). Turn the battle to the gate. Stop hiding, being indifferent and running away (Isaiah 28:5-6).
3. Enforcement — the process of ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, rules, standards, and social norms. Paul enforced a pronouncement upon Elymas (Acts 13:11).
The Lord says this concerning us: “19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19)
Prayer: Pray for the grace of discerning of spirits and the vigilance to detect activities of the children of the devil.
