Month Theme: Explosion
Topic: Pentecost II
Scripture Reading: Acts 2:14-41
Main Text:
Acts 2:1
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
The Holy Ghost fell on the disciples on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-2). The word Pentecost is the Greek word pentēkostē which means fiftieth. The feast of Pentecost is also called the feast of harvest, the day of the firstfruits and the feast of weeks. A harvest does not come overnight. It involves the process of time.
In yesterday’s devotional, we mentioned that the significance of harvest is threefold:
1. Refreshing
2. Restoration
3. Reward — a harvest is a reward of our labour. There are three areas of harvest we can have:
• Spirit (Acts 2:3-4) — the disciples received a spiritual encounter that precipitated an unquenchable revival. There is spiritual benefit to our labour in the Lord.
• Souls (Acts 2:37-38, 41) — Our labour in the field of souls will bring a great harvest. There will be an explosion of souls in the Body of Christ.
• Substance (Psalm 126:5-6) — our labour will bring physical reward as well. We will not weep forever. A time of joy is coming.
When we wait upon the Lord for the fullness of time we receive an explosion of harvest. Fifty implies a long wait but the Holy Ghost is eternal and fifty days is nothing to Him. Tarrying long leads to a large harvest.
Prayer: Pray for an increased harvest of souls in the Body of Christ this year.
