The word sorcery in Acts 8:9 means to be a magician or practice magical acts. Simon the sorcerer was part of the church in Samaria, and sought to mimic the anointing of God (Acts 8:17-18).

The keys to mesmerizing the mimicking spirit of sorcery can be gleaned from Acts 8:20-24.
• DISCERN — The church cannot defeat the mimicking spirit without the supernatural gift of the discerning of spirits (verses 22-24).
• DENOUNCE — We must denounce sorcery. To denounce is to publicly declare to be wrong or evil. Simon pleaded for mercy when Peter denounced his spirit and action (verse 20).
• DEMARCATE — To demarcate is to set boundaries or limits, separate or distinguish from. We must be bold enough to demarcate territories and exclude some people (verse 21).

We use the power of God to mesmerise the mimicking spirit. The rod of Moses turned serpent swallowed the serpents of the magicians which they produced by mimicking (Exodus 7:10-12). May the fire of the Holy Ghost consume every false fire burning in our churches.

Prayer: Pray for the power to mesmerise mimicking spirits.
