Month Theme: Giving and Receiving

Topic: God Takes Notice

Scripture Reading:
Genesis 4:1-10; Philippians 4:10-23

Main Text:
Philippians 4:18-19
18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

God is not indifferent to giving and receiving. He leads believers to give and blesses them for their obedience. God is a Spirit and does not make use of animals that were given to Him in the Old Testament era or money that is given to Him these days as offerings. Offerings however, represent people’s devotion to God and He takes notice of them.

God showed His interest in offerings when Cain and Abel brought offerings to Him – He accepted Abel’s offering and rejected Cain’s (Genesis 4:3-5). God had respect unto Abel and his offering but not Cain and his offering. In order words, God approved Abel’s offering and disapproved Cain’s. God’s respect for Abel was linked to His respect for his offering. You are not entirely distinct from the kind of sacrifices you make.

It is disastrous for worshippers to assume that when two or more people bring offerings to God, He accepts everyone’s offering. God is fastidious – He does not accept just anything that is presented to Him.

Prayer:
Pray and thank God that He has an interest in the gifts and offerings you give.
