Month Theme: Holy Ghost
Topic: Deity of the Holy Ghost — Omnipotence
Scripture Reading: Acts 14:1-18
Main Text:
Luke 1:35
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
The mandate of Jesus Christ for the Church involves doing impossible things. The early Church broke through barriers of darkness to preach the Gospel. They faced unimaginable dimensions of opposition. Demons oppressed those they were mandated to set free. Danger and death trailed them constantly. The power of the Holy Ghost was the only hope they had for success in ministry.
The angel Gabriel told Mary that the Holy Ghost or the “power of the Highest” would overshadow her and she would conceive Jesus Christ the Son of God (Luke 1:35). The Holy Ghost is the “power of the Highest”. Paul and Barnabas were elected by the Holy Ghost to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the places He assigned them. They were empowered by the Holy Ghost to minister to the Gentile world (Acts 13:1-3).
When the omnipotent Holy Ghost descends on people, they possess supernatural power that makes observers mistakenly regard them as “gods” – they cease to be ordinary in the sight of people (Acts 14:11-13). The gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church because of the omnipotence of the Holy Ghost. The power of the Holy Ghost overwhelms the Kingdom of darkness.
Prayer: Thank God for the power of the Holy Ghost inside you.
