Theme: The Giving Grace
Topic: Choose to Be a Giver
2 Corinthians 8:2
How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
One can always find an excuse not to execute a given task if he or she does not want to. It is also true that you can always find a reason to accomplish any given task. It is the same with giving; you can generate lots of excuses not to give, when the opportunity presents itself. You can as well stir up good reasons why you should give.
One group of people who could have given justifiable reasons why they cannot give, yet inscribed their name in the pages of history by their giving, is the Philippian Church. The Church was very poor (2 Corinthians 8:2). Also, the Jewish Church had not fully embraced them yet. Nonetheless, they gave out of their poverty to support Apostle Paul, and even gave to the Church at Jerusalem (Philippians 4:14-16).
The Philippians gave at a time when they did not have enough to keep them alive. They shared their virtually extinct resources with people who did not love them unconditionally. You have no excuse. You must desire the grace to be a giver. Regardless of your status in life, you can be an efficient giver. It is only then that “God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
