Armour for the Evil Day – The Sword of the Spirit

Theme: Overcoming In the Evil Day

Topic: Armour for the Evil Day – The Sword of the Spirit

Ephesians 6:17b
…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. While all the other pieces of spiritual armour mentioned in Ephesians 6 are defensive in nature, the sword of the Spirit is offensive. It speaks of the holiness and power of the Word of God. A greater spiritual weapon is not conceivable (Psalm 138:2). In Jesus’ temptations in the desert, the Word of God was always His overpowering response to satan (Matthew 4:1-11). What a blessing that the same Word is available to us!

Jesus used the Word to defeat the devil. We must be full of the Word of God so that we can prevail in the evil day (Colossians 3:16). We use the Word (Sword) through avenues like prayer, declarations, testimonies, praise and worship, among others.

David prevailed by testifying of God’s goodness in the wilderness and also speaking back to Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45-47, 50). The prophets of old, like Elisha, prevailed much over adverse circumstances by declaring God’s word (2 Kings 7:1-2, 16-20). Paul and Silas became victorious over the chains through prayer and praise (Acts 16:25-26). Your name can be added to the list of victorious people if you will pick up the Sword and do battle!

Prayer Assignment:
1. Pray for the grace to understand the Word of God and rightly apply it.
