Theme: Overcoming In the Evil Day
Topic: Armour for the Evil Day – The Shield of Faith
Ephesians 6:16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
The subject of faith cannot be exhausted in one day’s devotional. Everything about Christianity is faith based; from being saved (Ephesians 2:8), to living a life that pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). Nevertheless, we will look at a little part of faith as an efficacious weapon in the evil day.
The shield of faith spoken of in verse 16 makes satan’s sowing of doubt about the faithfulness of God and His Word ineffective. Our faith—of which Christ is “the author and perfecter” (Hebrews 12:2)— is like a golden shield, precious, solid, and substantial. Jesus Christ did not pray that satan would leave Apostle Peter alone, He prayed that his faith will not fail, when the enemy comes attacking (Luke 22:31-32). For you to remain standing in battle, your faith (not necessarily in His deliverance, but most importantly in His love for you), must not fail.
The shield of faith is potent to ward off the fiery darts of the enemy. The devils main motive is to dry up our faith, so he can sift us like wheat. Faith is what we need to quench all of the devil’s antics. Faith towards God that He is able to save to the uttermost is what keeps the devil defeated. By faith the elders received a good report and obtained victories (Hebrews 11:1-2). Keep faith alive!
