Theme: The Giving Grace
Topic: Ability to Impact Lives
Acts 9:39
Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
One characteristic feature of the early Church which is gradually getting eroded from the Church today is the motivation to generate the ability to impact lives. Individuals in the Church today are getting more and more selfish by the day. We strive to have enough for ourselves and our families. If we choose to get more, we do so only because we want to store for the future, without any regard for a needy neighbour.
Christians need to develop the ability to impact lives through giving. In Acts 4 we are told about the impact some disciples like Barnabas made on others’ lives (Acts 4:34-37). They sold what they possessed and distribution was made to all. Dorcas was a woman full of good works and almsgiving (Acts 9:36,39). Cornelius was also a practitioner of alms giving (Acts 10:1-4). Their giving impacted lives and drew the attention of heaven as well.
People who do not want to give usually claim they do not have the ability to give because they do not have enough resources. The truth though is that anything you have, however small, is enough to share. The little out of your little can impact a life.
