3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
God’s house is a house of the demonstration of the Spirit and power (1 Corinthians 2:4-5). Ananias and his wife Sapphira lied about the exact price they brought to the apostles after selling their piece of property (Acts 5:3-6). Peter rebuked them and said they had lied to the Holy Ghost. In the same conversation, he said they lied to God, thereby making the Holy Ghost, God.
Two demonstrations of power were exhibited in the apostle Peter’s meeting.
1. Discernment in the house of God — The omniscience of the Holy Ghost revealed the hearts and deeds of the lying couple – Ananias and Sapphira – to the apostles. The modern-day Church needs the demonstration of this power of the Holy Ghost. The pretenders and manipulators in the Body of Christ must be exposed.
2. Decision in the house of God — The discerning of the heart and lying of Ananias was followed by a decision of the Holy Ghost. Ananias died in their presence. The Body of Christ must repent of our sins and lies before we arrive at this point.
The Holy Spirit is omniscient and this should bring the fear of God back to the Church. The way Ananias and Sapphira were eliminated was an explosion. The fear of God fell on those in the church and the people outside (Acts 5:11-12).
Prayer: Ask the Holy Ghost to fill our hearts with the fear of God.
