Month Theme: Fire

Topic: The Confronting Fire

Scripture Reading: Acts 4:1-20

Main Text:
Acts 4:19
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

The fire of the Holy Ghost empowered the early disciples to overcome the resistance of the religious leaders of the day. The disciples of Jesus Christ confessed that they could not refrain from speaking the Word of God (Acts 4:18-20).

Like the disciples, believers of today face opposition. In Acts 4:18, the opposition the disciples faced came in two forms:
• Call — The religious leaders called the disciples – beware of invitations. Some calls are meant to stop us from accomplishing the purpose of God for our lives. We must be discerning in accepting invitations.
• Commandment — The disciples were warned to stop preaching. The commandment can be verbal, physical or demonic.

The confronting fire of the Holy Ghost made the disciples resist the elders and counsel (Acts 4:19-20). The fire stirred up:
• Conviction — In the sight of God. They revered God.
• Compulsion — We cannot but speak. Like the prophet Jeremiah, the fire compelled them (Jeremiah 20:9).
Fire confronts and defeats opposition (Joel 2:3-4).

Prayer: Pray for fire in you to keep moving in the face of opposition.
