Month Theme: Explosion
Topic: Encounter With Jesus Christ
Scripture Reading: Acts 9:1-9
Main Text:
Acts 9:3-4
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
The supernatural manifestations of God are characterised by suddenness. The Scriptures are replete with examples of the sudden, spontaneous or quick explosions/manifestations of God’s power. An example of such sudden explosions is some people’s encounter with Jesus Christ. Most unbelievers receive Jesus Christ by faith without experiencing any sudden supernatural phenomena. Some however, have dramatic encounters with Jesus Christ.
Saul had an explosive encounter with Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:2-5). Saul was a learned man and devout Jew. He was a religious zealot who persecuted the Church and supervised the murder of Stephen. It required something extraordinary to make him believe in the resurrected Christ. God did not use the normal method of a preacher preaching the Gospel to another person to reach Saul. The glorified Jesus Christ suddenly appeared to the hardened Pharisee (Saul), struck him to the ground and gave him the direction on how to be saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.
If the apostle Paul needed the sudden outbreaks of the demonstration of the power of God to get people saved at a time that was not as sophisticated, scientific and secular like ours, we need it more (1 Corinthians 2:4-5). The power of God has been quarantined in church buildings and auditoriums far too long. It must suddenly and spontaneously explode in airports, shopping malls, restaurants, school facilities, sports fields and entertainment centres.
Prayer: Pray for the Church to see many more supernatural manifestations than we are seeing now.
