Month Theme: Release
Topic: Bring Down the Walls
Scripture Reading: Joshua 6:1-10
Main Text:
Joshua 6:5
5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
During the Jubilee, “the walls” around where people are held and around their families and possessions literally collapsed as they returned to take what belonged to them. Their possessions were released to them. The collapse of the walls in families is comparable with the collapse of the walls of Jericho. The children of Israel, under the leadership of Joshua shouted and blew the trumpets – similar to the Jubilee shofar – to bring down the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6:1-5).
The city of Jericho was shut up tight – like the covid-19 lockdowns and quarantines. God gave the children of Israel the city but they had to bring down the walls to possess the city and the people, and things in it. One of three things required to bring down the walls:
1. THE SOLDIERS (Joshua 6:3).
The soldiers represent the kinds of people God uses for the Jubilee to bring walls down (Joel 2:1-5).
• Committed — only the committed can be involved in bringing down walls. If the walls will fall, one cannot give up too quickly. The children of Israel went round the wall 13 times.
• Courageous — not the faint hearted. There may be times the wall will look insurmountable, or the enemy may appear stronger, nevertheless you will have to brace yourself and see the walls fall.
“9 Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, Let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:” (Joel 3:9). Prepare the men of war.
Prayer: Command every wall (of sickness, sin, poverty, etc) around your family to fall
