Armour for the Evil Day – The Helmet of Salvation

Theme: Overcoming In the Evil Day

Topic: Armour for the Evil Day – The Helmet of Salvation

Ephesians 6:17a
And take the helmet of salvation,…

In the days of old, when swords and spears were the main weapons of warfare, a soldier never went into battle without putting on his helmet. The helmet was made from thick leather with metal plates attached to the surface, or it was made from beaten metal. The helmet protected the soldier’s head from injury, especially from the strike of a sword.

The head is the seat of the mind, which, when it has laid hold on the sure Gospel of eternal life, matures to resist the false doctrines and temptations of satan (Ephesians 4:14). The unsaved person has no hope of warding off the blows of false doctrine because he cannot access the helmet of salvation and his mind is incapable of discerning between spiritual truth and spiritual deception (1 Corinthians 2:14-16).

The helmet of salvation protects our minds from satan’s two-edged sword of doubt and discouragement. He seeks to make us doubt God’s sovereignty and saving work for us. The devil constantly attacks our mind to pollute it and fill it with doubt, but the helmet of salvation, which is the hope of salvation, renews our minds daily and reminds us of who we are in God (1 Thessalonians 5:8). The helmet of salvation is the hope in God’s salvation, that the battle with satan will not last forever, and that we will be victorious in the end (Hebrews 2:14-18). The days are evil. Wear your helmet of salvation now!
