Holiness for Warfare

Theme: Overcoming In the Evil Day

Topic: Holiness for Warfare

1 Peter 1:16
Because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy.

When God tells us to be holy, He is instructing us to be separated unto Him, by giving us specific regulations to govern our lives. As believers, we need to be “set apart” from the world unto the Lord. We need to be living by God’s standards, not the world’s. God is calling us to be distinct from the world. We are “a holy nation” (1 Peter 2:9). If we are separated from the world; we need to live out that reality in our day-to-day lives.

Holiness is a very important tool in spiritual warfare. Living in sin perforates our spiritual armour and makes us susceptible to the attacks of the enemy. We are commanded by God not to let sin reign in our bodies, by obeying its lusts, instead we are to present ourselves to Him as instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:12–14).

The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives means that, as we grow in our faith and come to love God more each day, we’ll have the strength to resist sin more and more (Romans 8:37). Through the working of the Holy Spirit we are empowered to resist sin, not give in to its temptation, and live according to God’s Word.
